My project, Phases, explores the episodes and symptoms of bipolar disorder—mania, depression, psychosis, and everything in between. These are some of the pieces I've created throughout Phases:

The story behind my series:

Sofia Román is a Mexican visual artist integrating behavioral science and lived experience to investigate the narratives surrounding mental health. Her work combines analytical reflection with visual symbolism, examining bipolar disorder, stigma, and systemic structures that shape our sense of self. Through art, she opens conversations meant to reduce shame and reimagine how mental illness is seen, spoken about, and understood.
Her drawing Self-Stigma was featured in the PBS documentary: Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Illness
Her drawing Senses will be part of the upcoming exhibition VISIONARY COLOURS in Celaya, Mexico.
